Spring Loaded Challenge - week 1 check-in

Howdy Sufferlandrians :volcano:

One week down, just over 3 to go! I signed up for the novice yoga & strength training and have really enjoyed experiencing some new (to me) content from the app. As strong as I think I am, it’s always nice to be humbled by bent leg tip at the hip.

I’m under no illusions of being flexible, but every time I do ‘Hip Flexor and Groin Recovery’ I’m a better human for it.

So - how are you coming along over the last week? Have you made time for the activities each day? Have you been challenged by a move or pose? Have you been keeping up with yoga regularly and noticed some improvement? Keen to chat about your experiences, so drop in below. 🧘‍♂ :weight_lifting_man: :brain:

Battling for time some days to be honest. I’m doing MTP+Yoga as I already do strength work in the gym. Am enjoying the MTP bits they really improved my motivation in just one week. The yoga I am enjoying as it forces me to wind down and also do a few different yoga vids to my usual. Sometimes am referring things a day.

“Let’s begin in Thunderbolt”

evil laugh

Erm…that’s a no, not with a bolster under my hips, not with a cushion underneath my feet. To be fair, I have fallen off the Yoga wagon and am using this challenge to get me back on it. But also to be fair, Thunderbolt is still a no

I love the way Abi assumes that sitting cross legged isn’t a major yoga manoeuver in itself.

I’m doing the MTP only, as I already have strength and yoga in my training plan.

I am listening to the MTP sessions, but I’m not getting fully engaged with the workbook part of it. Too many other things going on outside of training. :frowning:

I’m doing the MTP and strength plan, and enjoying revisiting MTP. There’s a ton going on in life right now so getting through this ultra low volume plan will be a big accomplishment.

It’s my first time doing structured strength training in ages (did some bodyweight training in another life) yet I’m surprised how sore the odd muscle was after the first couple beginner strength sessions. My knees are really tired (How did I ever do fifteen minute San ti Shi sessions in that other life?I feel weak.)

A massive day in the garden Saturday, digging out trees, did me in a couple days. Thankfully it just aligned with days off per the plan. Great challenge idea!

Two words that anybody who has just started the strength training program will never forget: Lateral Lunges.

How was this challenge again; 50hr window, or normal day?

Although I have done all the exercises (whole shabang intermediate) I think I may have failed keeping within the window.

I guess it does not matter as my country is not “on the list”

I was a bit late with one, the following evening.

It is a bit vague time wise

I too am confused about the timing to qualify for the “actual” challenge. I am having trouble getting the timing exactly right and am not sure where I stand. I am doing the MTP+Yoga and think I have gotten maybe 2 on the actual date, but done all of the sessions in some fashion. Does that count?

Quoting myself from another thread @Magnito - unfortunately I can’t do anything about the country restrictions.

Hehe, no worries @gpsjared. It is one of the drawbacks of living in the outskirts of civilization (:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:), less raffles/giveaways, low Strava prize-challenge eligibility (just the boring distance/climbing/gran fondo challenges), and so on.

It’s great for cycling though

You know, if you win, you can always ship it to me.

Ah, well then… That’s just the motivation I needed to complete Pierre

I’m glad this challenge popped up. My May cycling plans have had to adapt to COVID restrictions and life events so while I’ve been doing lots of cycling I had been putting off strength, yoga, and the mental program. Just the boost of encouragement I was looking for. I’d been feeling a little listless lately but re-did the mt Sufferlandria session this week. I realized that I’m actually still in track to meet one of my big goals: completing a 300km ride, which I plan to do with two buddies in a week and a half.

That ride sounds rewardingly difficult - glad you’re still on track :volcano:

@Jason_Blakeburn Same for me - been doing MTP as part of the challenge and didn’t realize how much I needed it.

I am loving the challenge, currently was not on any plan, so this was a great way to get structure in strength, yoga and MTP to prepare for next training block.

SUF strength is something that seems harmless, but it always gives me dead legs.
Not sure if I am doing it right or very wrong, as I see a slight decrease in power numbers (or increase in RPE) when doing SUF strength.
If I do a break from it, I get better (sometimes even better than previous power numbers), so they are definitely doing something, just not sure if I need to stick with it longer so I can adapt and not feel so stiffed legged, or I need to adjust recovery/ training load.
